Rumors of Races

A little bird told me that there might be a race up in Bear Valley.  The details are sketchy and the Trogs might be helping out.  I'll post as soon as I know what's up.

The Giro

Looks like The Discovery Channel team has just take down the first of the three big tours.

Ales and Trails

Forgot to post Erich's pictures from last week.

Bass Lake

Matt and I got a chance to ride Bass Lake, specifically the 007 trail that winds around Central Camp road.  At the trailhead I spent some time chatting with some boys from Spatdog.com.  They're were encouraging me to enter the Tour de Granite.  I kind of laughed and told them that if I show up, I wouldn't really be racing.  I'd just be riding the same trail as the racers at the same time.

Lyon's Dam

We did some exploring this time and we need to go back to further explore.  Anyway, here are the pictures.

This is NOT pinball.

If you haven't heard about Stage 19 in this year's Giro, check out this article.  That's right, a dirt road.

I'd like to welcome Briones Mafia to the list of friends.

Got this past to me from Scott O.

How Smart is your Right Foot?

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction.

I told you so ......And there's nothing you can do about it!

Yeah, my foot switched too.

Al Jet finally wins a stage at the Giro.

Our Condolences

Our sympathies go out to Fred Randle and his family who lost his father Thursday.  Our thought are with Fred, has family and the families of the other gentlemen who were killed in the car crash on Thursday.

Cadel Evens likes to crash

Or so it seems.  He broke his color bone something like 20 times last year and blew all his chance to race.  Well, he crashed again recently, cracked his collar bone, but it looks like he's still racing the tour.

Boulder Report

If this is not on your regular reading list, it should be.

Ride of Silence

>>> Annamarie Newton 05/11/05 12:19 PM >>>
Join cyclists nationwide in a silent slow-paced ride in honor of those
cyclists who have been injured or killed while cycling on America's
public roadways.  See:  www.rideofsilence.org  for more details.

MODESTO's Ride of Silence will begin at Moose Park, travel 10 miles
along the Dry Creek Trail to Claus Road, and back to Moose Park.
Date:  Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Time:  7:00 p.m.
Ride Leader:  Louis Levin, 526-0600

Also, check out www.modestogov.com/pwd/ride for more bicycling events
in Modesto during CALIFORNIA BIKE COMMUTE WEEK, May 16th through May
21st.

Say something:  Go ahead and give you opinion on the Backpacker Magazine poll about whether or not mountain bikes should be allowed into National Parks.

Giro on the Net:  I've gotten email saying the Ria Sports link isn't showing the Giro, or at least isn't showing it live.  I've tried a couple times and I haven't been able to get it either.  I've watched some billiards and other weird sports, but no cycling in the last few days. Well, here is something else you can try.

If you want to watch, go to:

http://www.gazzetta.it/Speciali/Giroditalia/2005/eng/

About mid way down on the page, there is a blue box on the right-hand
side.  Click on the link that says "Video diretta" (meaning video
direct, duh).  A new window will appear with the video links.  If it
doesn't work right away, keep trying.

I haven't tried to see if it works, I forget until it's too late and the stages is over.  If all else fails, I know you can get a live audio link through http://www.eurosport.com.

Giro on the Web

Fixed that link that send you to the web cast.  Now let see if I can explain how to get there.  The name of the Channel is Rai Sports.  So click the entry banner, then choose Italy for the TV channels.  Look for Rai Sports and click the 800K link.  You need a broadband connection to watch.

 May 5

The Giro's coming.  OLN coverage is not going to be what it used to be. OLN has decided to have live online streaming video for a small fee.  Another option is to use this Italian link for a free video feed, but, it's in Italian.  I hear this link also works.

But you get into the first grand tour of the year, how about a look back at one of the all time classic stages of the Giro.

Don't we all wish we could be in Fruita this weekend?  The 10th annual FFTF is on.

Some Local Stuff

Photo contest,  Pirate DH is holding a Free Ride Photo Contest.  Send in your submissions.

If you haven't been able to make the Wednesday Road rides from Cyclemasters, you can make the Thursday Road Rides from The Bike Shop in Salida.

Here is an interesting article about bike messengers.  Looks like they are taking a beating now that you can do almost anything on the Internet.

Here's a sad one about the guy who cycled across the country, and then died on the drive home.

Cyclist Killed

A Livermore rider was killed riding on Mines road.  Happens too often.

I'm almost afraid to link this next one... think about this on your next after ride binge.  The pictures are something else but don't bother to read the stuff at the bottom.

It looks like IMBA has made a breakthrough with the NPS and it means more places to ride.

The home tap is up and running with a keg of New Belgium Fat Tire Ale.  BTW, have you seen the cool new set of commercials that they're putting out.
