A few pics from Del Puerto Canyon

I drove up Del Puerto Canyon to watch the practice road race, the weather was a bit grey and cold. I didn't see anyone I knew racing this time but I did run into Ron Mariano. I haven't seen him since the SMV days. He was taking pictures about 2 miles in watching the racers come back towards the finish.

God love VeloPromo, they put on a lot of races in the area, but sometimes they look like mountain hillbillies.

But still, they do some good work putting out races every weekend across the state.

.

Speaking of road races, don't ever think you've won it until you cross the line.

The North American Handmade Bike show

Went to this last year and it was really good, some really sweet looking bikes. It was more art show than bike show. The bad news it's the same days as the "Mcclane Pacific" and the Iron Angel. I'm not sure which I'm going to yet.

The Single Speed World Chapionship

Looks like Scotland this year.

Rides?

I hear some rumors of rides, I think a couple people may be going to Hogan but I don't know the details. I don't plan on going but if I hear more about it I'll post.

Del Puerto Canyon Road Race this weekend

I can't not watch the only local race, and I do mean local. I've raced this a couple of times, once I flatted out and once I came straggling in. I'm not racing, but I'm watching.

Now something Funny

That's all for today.

Pinball

It was a good return to pinball with a some pretty good January weather. There was a lot of ice, but very little snow. Check out the the pics on mtbr.com.

One cool part of the ride was that we took an alternate route toward Pinball. Instead of just taking the fireroad along the lake, we took the fireroad up to the intersection of the bottom of pinball, trail 19, and the railroad grade. Then we kept along the same fireroad until it turned into a trail that eventually dumped back onto the lake fireroad right before the climb up.

Good stuff.

Turlock Bike Park Meeting Friday

Dominick Ruffo, age 14, wrote a letter to the editor here at TurlockCityNews.com about wanting someone to help get a bike park here in Turlock.

Cycle Masters will be hosting the first community meeting about a potential Turlock Bike Park, Friday, January 26th.

This meeting may include discussion about what kinds of jumps and obstacles would be desired, where it could be located, the process to get it built and possibly some info about the City's involvement already.

Everyone should attend who would be using this bike park, would want it in their neighborhood or wouldn't want it in their neighborhood!

For more info, email submissions@turlockcitynews.com and go to the meeting.

Playing with the camcorder.

I'm still learning the ins and outs of this thing but here is something I threw together after an Early Bird Crit earlier this month. I was hoping to get some footage of myself in the crit but John never showed up to collect the camera so I started the crit with the camera in my jersey pocket. I wasn't really comfortable about that, especially when there was a crash in the pack in front of me. So, here is John, and Carlos riding around in the bigginers Cat 5 race.

I'm pretty sure I compressed the video too much but I'm learning.

Do you drink Coffee? I hear this stuff is good.

Old video of bike crashes.

Pinball is calling

Looks like we're trying to get a ride together for Sunday. It should be interesting if not flat out cold. The access to Lyon's Dam will be closed so we'll have to ride in on the rail road grade. I'm so out of shape but I just need to get out on a ride. My nerves are shot and I think I'm getting ann ulcer, the only thing I can think of is that I think I need to go ride some dirt.

Pics of what it should look like....

Since I'm updating, I might as well keep going.....

There was an article in the Modesto Bee about expanding the bike paths in the city.

Let's see if it really happens.

Life isn't all about cycling, check out the UFC Junkie.

The Tour of California

The list of pro teams participating in the ToC is up. Again this looks like a great event. Especially since Stage 3 goes right through our back yard.

Mobbers Part 2: Happy Trails

CHDH 2007

RideSFO is hosting some DH races again this year. RideSFO took over the former Groovy Gravity Games last year and turned it into the CHDH. And this year it's turned into a 3 race series. The dates for this year's races are April 20-22, June 9-10, and Sep 7-9.

There seems to be an on going expansion of the DH race scene in northern california. It's good to see. On the other hand, XC races have been stagnate.
